My Album - Page 1

So I am finally getting started on MY honeymoon album (Ohh yeah, after almost 4 years of marriage and an almost 2 year old baby :) )

So the story here is that my husband asked me to make one in our first year of marriage and I said "I am working on paid orders right now and I will start it as soon as I finish with them". So my husband, a sweetie that he is, went ahead and paid me to make our honeymoon album saying "Now this is your paid order too, so you better start on it". But I am guilty of never getting around to start making it.

So one of the TO DO things for me this year is to get this paid order finished and delivered :) I have decided to keep it simple, with less embellishments, keeping it mostly flat and easy to handle and flip through in the long run.

So I chose a Prima Paper Pad called Fairy Rhymes to get started. The papers are pretty and have that mixed media kind of look which I think is great because paper itself does most of the work leaving a little for me to do :)

I used some of my pattern paper scraps, manila tags and a few Kaisecraft embellishments to finish this layout. Pretty simple!

I used the following alphabets
L - Layering
P - Photo, Pattern Paper, Punch, Prima
T - Tags, Torn Edges
C - Cheery Lynn Die

Atleast I started and I hope to finish the album by my fourth wedding anniversary (which isn't too far away really :))

Happy Sunday!

Fun MDF Hangers from Craftslane!

Wondering what happened to my Craftslane inspiration post?? Ohh well long story!

So I have had this super cute and fun MDF hanger from Craftslane for a while now and I have been meaning to finish it and post it here for the longest time but whenever I get around to finishing it, my daughter grabs it and starts painting it and spoils whatever I had with it in the first place :)

Needless to say, she loves this hanger a little too much :) So since no matter how hard I tried I wasn't really able to do what I had planned with it, courtesy my little one, I thought I will show you how it looks like right about now :)

So the first time I took it out and decided on painting it with bright colors, Aadya decided to do this :)

I left it like this for a while and started thinking of what to do now. To take away the distraction Aadya's painting created, I thought I will give it some texture with tissue papers and mod podge.

And so one day when the little girl was sleeping, I made it look something like this.

I gave one coat of blue acrylic paint and before I could finish the second one, Aadya was up. So you can see a few uneven paint areas in the picture above.

Today, when I took it out again to finish, here's what happened :)

And well...... looks like it is going to get a red coat of paint on it now :)

I am not sure, how and when I will be able to finish working on it but without a doubt it has been the cutest project ever :)

Not only are these hangers fun, I think they will be of great utility in your little one's almirah. And I am pretty sure, kids are gonna love it :)

Here is the link to all the different hangers available at Craftslane. Make your pick, or buy them all!

Have a great weekend my friends!

I let my mind wander...

I am sharing something totally different than usual. I recently tried my hands at mixed media canvases and I have fallen in love. For long, I have admired mixed media artist, watched tutorials and dreamed of doing it and finally I did.

Here is my first ever mixed media canvas.

And here is how I did it.

1. I covered the whole canvas with some vintage book papers using modge podge, painted over it with acrylics in shades of blue and green.

2. Next I added some script stamping using Heartfelt Creations Stamp.

3. Then it was time to add some textures, so I used the TCW brick wall stencil and modeling paste to add some on the background.

4. Leaving the canvas to dry for a while, I started working on the butterfly, which by the way is hand drawn with charcoal pencils over a piece of pattern paper from DCWV.

5. I also got my sentiment ready using alphabet stamps from Lawn Fawn called Smitty's ABC on strips of paper.

6. Once my canvas was dry, I glued the butterfly and the sentiment down and added more highlighting with charcoal pencils and white paint.

7. Another coat of mod podge over the whole thing and it was done.

This mixed media Canvas perfectly fits the Challenge#27 - Lulupu 2nd Birthday Special Category 3
I have used the following alphabets from L U P T C

L - Lawn Fawn Alphabet Stamps
P - Paper, paint
T - Texture, TCW Stencil
C - Canvas, Charcoal pencils

I am also taking the March Challenge with Mou at Design Memory Craft blog. The theme is to showcase our motto in life and this canvas truly reflects mine. This year I have decided to let my mind wander and let life take it's own course, without worrying about things I can't change.

Let me know what you think of my maiden attempt.
